About the Build
The U.P.P.E.R. is a lighter weight layup of OPEN’s renowned U.P. quiver-killer gravel bike with road bike weight and ride characteristics. This go anywhere bike can be setup for anything, from skinny road tires (current setup is 700×34) to 700×40 for fast gravel, and even 650×47 to keep stability on chunky gravel. With virtually 3 wheel sizes at your disposal, it truly is one bike to do everything. Gravel bikes are trending to long and raked out, while OPEN sticks to a more conservative and proven approach. Their geometry gives a more relaxed ride position that is far from mundane, when off-road it is stable and confidence inspiring, on-road it lets you rail through corners without the harshness of a race bike.
Shimano’s latest electronic offering in the form of 105 blends 12 speed range with modern electronic precision at a more affordable price point. Longer battery life, cleaner cockpit setup, and more responsive brakes to boot makes for an amazing package for every day riding and weekend warriors. The new updated hood shape offers the exact same ergonomics as their Dura-Ace counterpart. Electronic shifting gives peace of mind, especially off-road, of knowing that you don’t have any cables to get contaminated and eventually replaced. An often overlooked upgrade to the brakes is the move away from ceramic pistons to remove the possibility of pistons cracking during pad replacement and better longevity and pad clearance.
Talking tech is fun but at the core of this build is fit. Here at OYLC we absolutely love working with riders along their bike fit journeys. Being able to take measurements from one bike and transpose them to another, sometimes often times for the better is always a treat. Through our fitting process, taking quality notes and measurements, and comparing geometry charts we can setup your new bike to be optimized to your fit position without compromising handling and proportions.
