November 16th, 2010 This years Halloween Jam at the skatepark featured a two man race on one bike! This race had more carnage than a construction derby and might be better than watching the Derby. This is one of the funnest things I've ever captured with my video camera - Derek
If you have ever stopped by the shop and brought up Campagnolo chances are you know we're fans. I really like how it works, I was blow away when the hoods shape debuted a few years ago, like I said I really liked how it works(at the time i was riding campagnolo record 10 speed) The 11 speed shifter offers updated ergonomics and new feel from shifters, the feel for me was muted compared to 10 speeds direct mechanical feel, that I liked. If you are like me and liked the mechanical feel then the new 2011 super record shifters are for you, the new improved feel is like an old an friend. Other new features of shifters are new brake level pivots so if you are breaking on the top of hoods or the drops the feel is the same, the body it self is 8% stronger. New cable routing is designed for smoother routing - Drew
Also new this year are red and white hoods and cables are available, not generic, campagnolo branded parts.
Campy Shifters are fully servicable when in need and we have the parts here to keep your shifters working for a lifetime.
I've also been really happy with the new Deda Zero100 bar due to their shorter reach and shallow drop.
November 12th, 2010 This is the ultimate answer for those looking try a 29" bike. Kona's 2011 Unit features an improved set of sliding dropouts, a drastically improved fork, with bigger, more tapered fork blades. Avid's BB7 mechanical brake has proven itself over the years to be the best mechanical brake on the market and that's what you'll find on the Unit.
These extremely popular pedals from Odyssey come in just about every color imaginable including the new limited edition cotton candy.

What has not been written about Dario? I met him at the 2008 nahbs he was full of energy and very friendly. One thing is certain he is a talented builder that builds and designs bikes on his own terms with a flair undeniably all his own. Pictured below is the responsorium, a stainless steel tubed bike featuring a ciavte paint job, a real one of kind. Here again you have you have an example of another custom build. Campagnolo super record, reynolds wheels, Deda pressa h-bar, Deda stem and Thomson seat post. Fizik aliente saddle and bar tape tie together the contacts points. We love custom builds and sweating the details. Whether you have a box of parts and frame set and need a few select parts to tie it together. We also can design your next bike, with Independent fabrication we can get virtually anything you can dream of. Full custom carbon road bike designed for di2, a full custom stem stainless steel coupler bike to tour Italy or a SS 29er ti bike, we can do it all - Drew
Each Ciavete takes a full day to painstakingly paint by hand and no two are alike.

New bikes are showing up daily here at the shop. Norco's CRR3 is one of the best deals available for the road cyclist. 1580$ gets you a HTR* carbon frame, carbon fork, Mavic wheels, and Shimano 105 shifters and derailleur! *High Toughness Resin is a newly developed resin that is exclusive to Norco and used in all 2011 Norco carbon frames. HTR resin increases the impact resistance of the carbon by 20%, making stronger frames that are more resistant to damage. And because less resin is required during the carbon layup process, it decreases the overall weight of the frame.
Check out this BMX bike that we built up today. This Stolen Stereo is a great bike with awesome paint for the new bmx rider at an affordable price under $300.

The group is a mixture of 2010 Sram force and xx, this is a 2x10 set up, compact cranks( 50/34) up front matted to a 11-36 xx cassette, this bike will go up anything with this gear ratio.
August 26th, 2010 Again another fine example of a great group of parts needing to be hung on a fresh frame. There maybe a little misconception that if a shop does not sell the parts, they want no part of putting it together. Make no mistake we want to sell you your parts and next bike but we love to building bikes too! Bring in you frame and your parts and we will build it with care and dial it in with precision. Anything I could write about this bike would muddy the waters. Here's the short list, Custom Colonago EPS frame set, Deda press bars, white 11 speed campagnolo cables, full campagnolo super record build kit. The wheels, I may have just shorted out my key board. We like to give you the best of both worlds here at OYLC, above you have a very simple bike and below you get something with a little more color. This ride built up super light and had the extremely crisp shifting that SRAM Red has become known for.
Last up for today is this amazing photo we came across from a Redbull photo contest, thought we'd share it...
July 22nd, 2010 Ellsworth builds an amazing bicycle... we know it, our customers who ride one know it and now you can experience what one rides like. We've built this large 29" full suspension Evolve so you can truly see how amazing ICT(Instant Center Tracking) is. Visit the Ellsworth site right here to watch how ICT works. Give us a call for details on how you can ride one.
Cockpit controls on the demo Ellsworth feature X9 shifting and Avid Elixr CR brakes.

They are set up tubeless to keep things even lighter.
The Crane Bell has a classic look with a loud and resonating tone. It comes in a brass or aluminum version. Murphy will be proud.
Knog designed this adjustable wrench for the cyclist that wants a tool that doesn't take up a lot of space. The "shifter" opens to 15mm for all single axle nuts.
We are now stocking a larger selection of lubes we've tested in the past and really liked. First we have Rock n' Roll's "absolute dry", feaured below in lager size for the best value.
Second is the popular ProLink from Pro Gold. ProLink cleans and lubricates as you ride in any weather and is environmentally safe. We won't stop carrying our normal lubes like Dumonde Tech, but we are really trying to carry larger selections, stop by and suggest your favorite today.
July 19th, 2010 You can now follow us on Twitter for more shop news and random photos, we've found it a little easier to snap a quick pic with the Iphone during the busy repair season. We will still continue to update our site and can guarantee it will more updated heavily in the winter season. So if your a Twitter fan click here and follow us.
It's almost that time of the year, if you sit still you may be able to hear the cow bells off in the distance. Another cool frame in need of a build kit... red, white, and gold. Paul high flange polished single speed hubs were laced to mavic open pro rims with ceramic braking surface. Challenge Grifos tires complete the wheel set and provide plenty of traction. Sram s300 cross cranks, and a sealed bearing white industries freewheel(pictured below) round out the drive train. Up top you'll find ritchey wet look white seat post, h-bar, and stem. while a splash of red in the form of a salsa lip lock, sram hoods, fizik aliente, red deda tape tie this single speed together.
Let's face it; sometimes it is quicker to ride through the park rather than around it. That is why Norco combined the essence of road, mountain and urban bike designs into a truly versatile means of transportation. From open road to cracked concrete, gravel paths to hard-pack dirt, the XFR is the right tool for the job. 700c wheels increase top end speed capacity while SR Suntour forks soak up any bumps along the way. The XFR is made for commuters that need a bike to match their adventurous spirit and handle whatever life throws at them.
July 7th, 2010 Looking for a road bike that is carbon, bb30, tapered head tube and is something other than a Cannondale? Enter the Vandessel Rivet, the bike has all of the above features and can come as a complete bike or as a frame set. Available with Campagnolo, Sram, and Shimano, you make the call, same for the wheels, tires ,etc.
Out-of-the-box DH domination-without breaking the bank. Reduced frame weight. Tapered headtube and internal headset with oversized bearings for lower stack height, better rigidity, and more surface area to attach to downtube. Tighter cluster. D.O.P.E. System to eliminate brake jack. Adjustable BB height, geometry and ride characteristics. Avid Code brakes, RockShox Boxxer Race fork, Alex FR-32 wheels. Basically, the lightest, fastest, raddest Stab ever made!
So you have found your dream bike (or frame) on the web and found the perfect mix of nos parts and you need a few things to tie it all together. We love to build custom bikes and we light up 'when you ask what would you do if it was yours. Example: this awesome Colonago we had the luxury of assembling, fluted tubing, straight blade chrome fork. The customer sourced the build kit and added the Erikson Ti post followed by Brooks swallow saddle and matching bar tape to finish out this fine machine. Want us to build your next dream bike, give us a call today.
We love building wheels, when you combine Chris King's new R45 hubs, DT swiss competition spokes and classic Mavic open pro hard ano rims it all adds up to awesome build. Chris king has been making hubs for a long time, the r45 feature a new titanium ring drive with 45 points of engagement and low friction seals that make them hard to beat. The hubs are also available in lower spoke count drilling to build to Edge Carbon clinchers or rim of choice.
Here's Industry Nine's option for a light weight 29er' wheel set. Cnc'd aluminum spokes thread directly into the hub while eliminating the need for heavy nipples creating less rotational wheel wight. They feature the heavily sought after 120 points of engagement that I9's have became famous for and super smooth and large bearings for durability and strength. Staying on the subject of wheels we have some new products in from the crew over at Genuine Innovations. The first new item is a C02 carrier that mounts under your water bottle cage and can carry up to four 16g Co2's.
They are also now offering the Microflate kit in a MTB version, the larger 40 gram Co2 does a better job of inflating fatter tires.
White is the new black or pink or whatever the saying is these days. Anyway we have some Keo 2 Max that have a 12% larger platform for more room on the dance floor.
Last but not least is the Fizik Alante FdJeux team saddle with matching tape. This is one hot looking saddle.

June 17th, 2010 We have a Kona Abra Cadabra here for demo, I've been riding this bike a ton and can't stop taking it out on the trails. Come by and check out this sub thirty pound All Mountain machine.
June 15th, 2010 It's been a while since we made a post so here's a some stuff to get you caught up with what's been going on here at the shop. We have some really cool projects in the works and we'll be sure to share them with you as soon as they're completed. One of the more unique bikes that we've built up recently is the Ride from Ellsworth. This version featured the Nuvinci transmission which is an internally geared hub that
Who wants an awesome deal on a mtb, cross bike, road bike? Answer we all do, Kona has 09 bikes ready to ship for an unbeatable price, Kona bikes have style with function to match. Give us a call today or stop by, we would love to sell you your next bike. Below is a 2009 Hei-Hei 29er' complete with an awesome parts spec...Fox, Slx, XT, Wtb, and Maxis just to name a few. Check out out www.konaworld.com for info.
A personal favorite of mine is the Fizik Aliante, I have been riding one for along time, now available in team edition colors with tape to match. The team colors are available in the ever popular Airone and Anteras.
Now in stock, just in time for cyclocross season is comfy tape from PRO. Easy to wrap with the right amount stretch to keep it nice and tight. It's also very grippe for when your bar gets covered with rain and mud. PRO is a division of shimano.
Co2 does work well but when you have used your last one and you are miles from home you will want a pump, not just any pump but one from the guys at Lezyne. It's light and compact for simple storage in a jersey pocket. The hose slides out of the middle and screws onto the other end. Most of us ride presta but if you want to be a hero or pump up your cruiser you can easily switch between!
May 19th, 2010 Come out this Friday and watch the new film Follow Me just releases by the Anthill Crew, these are the guys responsible for the Collective trilogy so you know it's going to be good. We are showing it at Big Blue Country Sports Bar and Grill at 9p.m. This is a Free and all ages event!
May 14th, 2010 The Duffield Derby mountain bike race is this weekend. The XC race starts at 11 with the entertaining Super D event following at 2:30.
Joe Ward brought by some more of his books titled "Wheeling Around Louisville" This is a must own for every cyclist and is awesome when just getting into the sport and needing to find some good rides. Joe doesn't just give you a que sheet and map of his twenty five favorite rides, he includes local history, places to eat, and must see things along the way.
May 13th, 2010 In life there are always choices and the same is true in cycling. The myriad of colors, steel or carbon or Ti or Aluminum, and the conversation (and cost). Whispers of Sram, Shimano, or Campagnolo. Then the question is asked and then it all hits the fan. For as many people that are out there turning the pedals there is going to always be the great debate. Sram is the relative newcomer to the sport and has had great success, LBL, Prbx, The Tour. You name it the big guns are riding Sram but they are paid to do the job and lets face it most of them could bury us on a old worn out Schwinn collegiate. Sram has the best customer service, while offering the best bang for the buck makes me push/sell Sram all day long. Shimano shows up to the party in their trade mark blue jackets(see Rouleur 16, 17 here at the shop for the story) wielding Di-2, Yes it's that good, a game changer as they say. If you have the chance ride it, do it and smile, I know I did. If shimano makes an affordable electronic group for the masses it will have a huge impact. Last but not least you have Campagnolo taking a page out of Spinal tap, "it goes to 11" I have spent more time riding or shall I say pedaling squares on 11. The refinement is awesome and the craftsmanship is there too, I'm a fan but you have to pay to play. The stuff aint cheap but life is too short to drink cheap beer, eat fast food or ride cheap bike parts. So to wrap this whole thing up, It all boils down to what conversation you want to have, they are all different and good in there own way. I did say life is too short, time to go for a ride, this debate will go on and on. Im fine with that because its all bikes and that a good thing - Drew. We recetly built up two custom road bikes here at the shop... both steel frames because roads are only going to get more and more rugged. One customer decided to try Sram, while the other chose Campy after riding one of our bikes. The first is an Independent Fabrications Crown Jewel built with Sram Rival, handbuilt DT wheels, and Ritchey componets. This bike was absolutley beautifull! These pictures taken inside on a rainy day do no justice when it comes to showing how amazing the paint on this bike is. Custom frame geometry and a dialed componet group made this one sweet ride.
The new red Ritchey logo's matched the bike perfect!
Second was a steel Soma Smoothie ES with carbon fork, hand built DT wheels, and Campagnalo's new Athena 11sp groupset. Athena is the first 11 speed group with a silver finish, made for riders who expect state-of-the-art performance without the high cost of a pro level group. Everything went together great and it rode like a dream!
We got in a new wheel set from HED this and were amazed by how well the tires fit to the rims. A deep channel allowed the Vittoria tubular's to roll on very easy and made for a very strong match after some good ol' glue.
Both hubs were super smooth and the wheel set was extremely light. HED builds a nice wheel along with all of there other products.
May 12th, 2010 With so many new cyclist getting on the road daily it's been long over due that someone local put together a safe cycling video that was actually useful. The crew over at Bike Louisville goes over some of the more important things for a beginner to know in a short eight minute video below. This is even good for the regular cyclist or e-mail it to a friend of yours who would benefit from it.
Mark your calendar... Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 21st. Click the link to find out more and register to ride.
April 29th, 2010 We had a swiftwick employee stop in our shop a couple months ago while hiding from the rain on a road ride. He left us a couple pairs of their wool socks and since then we've been hooked. Swifwick socks are knitted at 200 needles; the highest density you’ll find in socks. The higher the needle count, the tighter the knit. Their socks are so tightly knitted that no trail debris or foreign material can penetrate your sock causing irritation and blistering. What we like most about these socks is how they keep shape through the whole day. We just received a full order from the Tennessee based company. We have both Merino Wool and Olefin styles in many sizes and lengths. Purchase a pair of Swiftwick socks and put them to the test. They unconditionally guarantee every Swiftwick product to be the best performance product you have ever worn, if not mail the laundered socks and a request for a competitor’s replacement pair of equal value.
Odyssey's Twisted PC pedals have been a hard item for us to keep in stock, they literally fly of the shelf. They're available in every color imaginable including glow in the dark and sun activated color changing versions. At 15-20$ a pair they're perfect for the bmx crew or our daily repairs. They've also become pretty popular with the fixie/ commuter crowd but aren't exactly designed to be used with toe clips. Here's a set that received a little modification here at the shop and can now accept toe clips. We can do the same for your bike!
Edge carbon bars are back in stock at OYLC! These bars are built to be strong first, light second allowing you to focus on riding with no compromises.
We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to install a Sram XX group on a bike last week and it was amazing! We've been looking forward to setting a bike up with XX and see how it worked. The end result was a bike that shifted super crisp, and you can use every gear you have with out the chain rubbing the front derailluer. All the bolts on XX are Torx 25's which is a change we're seeing more and more on bikes recently and are pleased with the way they work.
The XX shifters were so light it was incredible! After the photos were taken, this bike received Avid's Matchmakers allowing the brake and shifter to share a clamp making for a clean look and more handlebar space. It also got the new Edge Carbon riser bars in pictured above.
This had to be the most fun we've had test riding a bike, we couldn't stop riding it.
One of our favorite parts about the group is the steel cassette which will increase the life of your drive train considerably over a softer aluminum one.
In this picture you can see how it's made. Cogs 2-9 are all connected, cog #10 is aluminum, and on the other end is a single steel cog and lockring to hold it all together. The way it's made allows it to be as light as an aluminum cassette but much stronger.
April 28th, 2010 A crew of motivated trail workers have set a goal to finish a section of trail at Waverly Park the week of May 3-7. They are looking for some extra help through the week during the hours of 9-6 daily. Metro parks is supplying a ditch witch to do the heavy work, but just a couple extra hands for a few hours a day will go a long way. Contact Billy Davis with any questions.
We all deserve to go fast. And it shouldn't cost a bundle. Get into road racing, kill the commute, and have fun doing it! Kona's 2010 Zing features taller headtubes for a more comfortable riding position, a new hydroformed, super aerodynamic frame, Kona Carbon fork, and internal brake cable routing for general svelteness. Note that we added the Fi'zik blue bar tape to match the frame and give it a look all it's own. Be the most efficient animal on the planet, and Zing along the asphalt roller coaster of the world.
We know you've been thinking of getting out and riding to work. Now, with Kona's entry-level Dew's speedy geometry, great components and affordable price, you've run out of excuses.
Mother's day is May 9th and this is a perfect gift for mom. Sun's Kruizer has an aluminum frame, alloy rims, and a coaster brake. We like how light this bike is which making it easier to carry and put in a car.
Here's another Surly we put together today in preparation for a cross country trip.
Surly racks were the choice for front and rear and the silver was a very nice look.
Here's a used bike that is to good of a deal to pass up. This Steel Vicious Groover has a Rock Shox Reba, XT cranks, Hope brakes, Sram X0 shifters and rear derailleur, XTR front derailleur, Ti Moots stem, carbon bars, and a thomson post making for an ultimate cross country build. And as an added bonus you get a green Chris King headset and hubs laced to Mavic 717 rims.
April 27th, 2010 We have two new mountain bike dvd's here waiting to be watched on a rainy day or before you go out for a ride. Brighter is Filmed in North and South America. From past editor of Freeride Entertainment, Tamas Forde/New Wave Cinema is delivering exactly what you’ve been missing: A feel good, pro quality film...at an affordable price. Race Across The Sky - the story of the 2009 Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race will inspire you to "Dig Deep". At 10,000+ feet, against the misty backdrop of a former mining town, Leadville, Colorado, 1228 cyclists start the grueling 100 mile race. This epic mountain bike race was captured with 10 HD cameras throughout the course including a helicopter and an off-road motocam. Racers include seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, six-time defending champion Dave Wiens and three-time World 24 hr Champion Rebecca Rusch. It's not only about getting up close and personal with the top racers but about all the racers and their inspirational stories. You'll laugh, you'll cry and if you don’t get on a bike you'll do something amazing after watching this film!
Summer is right around the corner and with that comes sweaty palms, get ahold of your grips with these new gloves from Troy Lee. If the bright colors and checkerboard deigns aren't for you we have plenty of blacks, grays, and white to choose from too!
Hydrapak's Reyes pack features durable, clean design featuring the largest reservoir and two compression straps to keep gear secure during 3-4 hour excursions. Separate reservoir compartment accessible from the back panel allows for increased interior storage with two internal pouches in addition to the deep outside mesh pocket running down the front.
New shoes arrived from Duffs last week!
April 22nd, 2010 Chris King has made their ever popular and very reliable headset in a internal/zero stack version name the InSet. The classic Chris King sealed bearing is built into three configurations for many of the most contemporary bicycle head tube dimensions. As a low-stack style headset, the press-in cups and bearings are housed within the head tube allowing for an overall lower ride height. InSet compatibility can also conform to forks with tapered steerer tubes. Aluminum cups in 10 available colors house our legendary bearings; all made in-house in their Portland, Oregon facility.
Another Ellsworth Evolve is out on the trails complete with parts that will withstand the test of time. This Evolve uses the new Chris King bottom bracket which has been getting some testing from our shop crew and all riders are very pleased with how smooth it is. Fox shox front and rear make for a very dialed ride as well!
A 15mm axle makes for a stiff front end, it's extremely easy to switch an Industry Nine hub from standard Q.R. to 15 or 20mm setups. Switching the press on cones is all it takes to adapt it to another fork, which is nice when you may be upgrading in the future.
An I9 rear hub was the obvious choice due to the smooth rolling and quick engagement. It was laced to a No Tubes ZTR Arch rim for strength. A SRAM Drivetrain was also used for hassle-free and reliable shifting.
The verdict is in on these fine brakes from Avid... They ROCK! You know it's good when some of the down hill guys are using them.
We've had a lot of people trying the Industry Nine Hubs and we can say that they are very happy with the performance. Here's a silver one we built up this week.
April 11th, 2010 Louisville local Marcas Grubbs put in some hard work these past two weeks for this new We The People edit . Look foward to more edits filmed by MOVEMENT in the near future including a day from Ft. Duffield.
March 28th, 2010 Here's some footage from a trip up to rays indoor mountain bike park I took a couple weeks ago. This place is enormous, most of the clips in here are just from the new Troy Lee Designs Rhythm Room. There really is so much more to this place including ramps for all types of riders. Although I rode most of the time I was there I did get a couple clips with Mike Needs, Spencer Recnk, and Daniel Dhers.
March 25th, 2010 Spring is here and with that comes a lot of tune-up work, thanks go out to all who have brought their bikes in for the good ol yearly check up. We've got some good projects in the works so be sure to keep an eye out for some hot new bikes on our site. Here's a couple to hold you over. Salsa's Fargo is a bit of a bicycling anomaly: a disc brake only, drop bar mountain bike designed for off-road touring. Drop bars provide multiple hand positions for long days on singletrack, path, or roadway. A full compliment of braze-on’s on the frame and fork allow for both front and rear racks and fenders. The investment cast chainstay-mounted disc brake mount is conveniently tucked out of the way, eliminating accessory mounting interference. Load as much or as little gear as you choose for your next adventure. The sloped toptube allows plenty of standover clearance for those fully-loaded starts and stops.
The ease of a single speed set up is loved by all types of cyclist... Kona's Big Unit is the perfect bike for hitting the trails and not having to worry about snagging your derailleur on a rock. The Scandium butted frame makes for a light ride, while high end parts from Fox, Shimano, and Race Face gaurentee things will work properly.
The Big Unit comes with a sliding drop out and a derailleur version is available in case you want to go geared once in a while.
March 17th, 2010 Liberty Tattoo & Art Parlor's Bike Art show opens this Saturday, March 10. We are meeting here at the shop at 7p.m. for a ride to Liberty, the ride will leave at 7:30.
We've received some really cool bikes these last couple days. The Paddy Wagon features a high bottom bracket, increased pedal clearance for fixed riding, but maintains classic road geometry with fender clearance for funky-less commuting.
Kona's Africa Bike is designed specifically to provide effective, affordable transportation to those who need a bike that gets the job done-no matter if it's dirt roads or psycho-habituated roadways. As a sign of Kona's commitment to the goodness that is the bicycle, for every two Africa Bikes sold, one is donated to a good works cause in challenged areas around the world. Visit www.konaafricabike.com to find out more.
A built in lock comes spec'd on the Africa Bike, the more safety features the less chance of theft!
Volume's bmx inspired Cutter track bike is ready to handle all the urban riding you can dish out. It's amazing the amount of abuse these things can take, we never thought we'd see guys jumping stairs on a 700c wheel.
The mint version above comes alive at night by the way of glowing bright green!
March 4th, 2010 NORTH AMERICAN HANDMADE BICYCLE SHOW COVERAGE>>> Drew shot a bunch of pics from this year's show, click the link below to see all the beautiful bikes.
For the past three years, I have attended the North American Hand Built Bike Show. The first was Portland.,second Indianapolis and this year, Richmond. Now we all know, there are trade shows and there are bike shows. Then there is the The North American Hand Built Show. Through the door, you are immediately hit by the hum of conversation. The attention to detail and colors, on these bikes, are stunning !! Some builders booths are like walking into a living room(Signal Cycles), others are like their shop( Vanilla Bicycle Company and Bilenky). Then there are the builders, such as, Richard Sachs, David Kirk, Dario and Sacha. These guys are masters of their craft . What's more amazing is that these folks are so extremely accessible. Naturally, some are more willing to talk more than others. By nature of such events, almost all builders are on top of there game. Like Ellis, Signal, Engin, Crumpton, IF, Villin, Zancanato, Black Sheep, naming a few. Other luminaries seen were Molly Cameron, Jeremy Dunn, from Embrocation/Rapha, Rob Vandermark , Ben Serrota, Tom Kellogg, Justin Spinelli, DiNuicci. Conspicusly missing were Bruce Gordon,Peter Weigle, Ira Ryan, Tony Peiria, Courage Mfg. One thing that I left the show with, is the sense that we live in the Golden Age of hand made bicycles! Some consider computers are the future, but not for me. Computers may aid in the design, but the deft touch and the keen eye of these builders never fail to warm my heart. Hand made bicycles are like art - that you can both enjoy and ride through out your life. Hand made bicycles are one of life's simple luxuries. Click this link to see more pictures
March 3rd, 2010 It's awlays nice when some one buying a bike adds on a couple extra changes to make it a little different. This Surly Cream Roller was lucky enough to recieve a Brooks B17 and some straight bars with Brooks grips.
March 2nd, 2010 NEW IN TODAY>>> In the Brooks tradition, their grips are made of natural leather, the same long wearing leather used for our saddle tops. Each grip is made with a stack of leather washers cut from the scrap of our saddle tops. These washers are held together by 3 spokes, enabling the grip to be adjusted to the desired length. The standard length of each grip is 130 mm, but each grip can be shortened to the desired length independently.
We also received some new stainless steel bottles from Klean Kanteen. The Classic bottle is made from high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel that's totally free of BPA and other toxins. Because stainless steel itself is safe, they don't need to coat the inside of the bottle with a plastic or epoxy lining. No matter how many times you refill it, no matter what you put into it, your Klean Kanteen will keep your drinks fresh, crisp and clean tasting. We have several different colors for you to choose from too!
February 25th, 2010 This has got to be one of the best cycling pranks ever. Imagine yourself cranking up dog hill, turn the corner and you run into this...

February 22nd, 2010 Liberty Tattoo & Art Parlor will be hosting a new show featuring bike art from March 10 to April 24. Opening party will be Saturday, March 20, the same weekend as Bike!Bike! Southeast here in Louisville. Gary and Suzanne are looking for additional submissions for the show and they’re open to anything whether it be photography, paintings, sculpture, furniture or something cool they don’t even know about. Also, the due date on the flyer of February 27 isn’t set in stone. If you get in contact with them you can work something else out I’m sure. You can email them here, but you’re likely to do better by just calling the shop at 502-637-4777. February 13th, 2010 This was the 10,000th photo I've taken with my camera and it's ironic being of the 2009 Photography Annual by Rouleur. Be sure to crack this one open next time your in the shop to see photos from the world's largest races such as the Paris-Roubaix to the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.
2010 Big Agnes catalogues arrived today with all of their new sleeping bags, pads, and tents inside. Let us know if your looking for some new camping gear for spring time.
We've updated our product page with most of the brands we have access to and will be updating it regularly. Being a small shop we can't have everything here, but we can make special orders and usually get it within 1-3 days. The best part is that you don't have to pay additional shipping! We order from nearly every distributor in the bicycle industry so chances are we can find that hard to locate item. Give us a call or send us an email if you need something specific.
February 12th, 2010 It's hard to think about not being able to go to a store and get that hard to find CD you've been wanting. Louisville's famous Ear x Tacy needs a little support to get through tough times and the age of digital music. We can remember the first time we stepped foot inside the huge store containing any type of music you could ever wish for. Music has always been a very good motivator when getting out and riding. If you have a little extra cash stop in and pick a cd up. We suggest Black Mountain, The Builders and the Butchers, and Grizzly Bear since they're the newest cd's being played in the shop recently. We've also had Radiohead's OK Computer on heavy repeat, deffinently a must have. The Louisville Dirt Club is selling a frame which the sales will go to purchasing new cd's, you can even help John pick the tunes.
We found this over at F**k gas list of the ten coolest roads to ride on earth. Be prepared to see some of the most amazing roads ever!
Profile Racing has made quality bmx components for years. They make the best bmx crank sets in the business and were the first company to offer a bmx cassette hub. Now they're producing Fixed gear hubs out of their St. Petersburg Florida machine shop. The 32 hole set below rolls on sealed bearings, has ti bolts, and one of the thickest lock rings ever.
February 10th, 2010 SNEAK PEAK: Here's an Ellsworth rainforest green Truth that will be completely built up in the following week. Keep an eye out on the site for the finished product.
February 9th, 2010 The fifth anniversary of the one and only mountain bike winter slope style contest draws a world-class set of riders and a mind-blowing slopestyle course built out of snow! Kona's 2010 WHITE STYLE went down last month in Leogang, Austria and we thought it was the perfect post for today after waking up to six inches of snow.
February 6th, 2010 What a good friend this guy is toting his buddy through the east coast snow storm...
February 5th, 2010 SRAM/Truvativ compatible bottom brackets from Chris King have finally arrived here at the shop. You can now upgrade your sram/truvativ crank set to a new Chris King bottom bracket for the smoothest pedaling possible. The Chris King BB delivers every benefit you've come to expect from King and in the wide array of colors only King can do. An available grease injection tool allows the bearings to be purged of existing grease and debris and new grease run through. What better way to maximize the life of your bearings than to do routine maintenance? Especially when it's this easy. Racers take note! With the Chris King bottom bracket and injection tool, you can train day-to-day with a durable high-viscosity grease and race with a light, fast-rolling low-viscosity grease or oil.
Here's a exploded diagram of the set up, the BB comes with several spacers to adapt to different frames.
Also new are the No Tubes ZTR 335 rims. No Tubes original design eliminates the traditional bead hook and uses a new bead socket technology. It moves the sidewall of the rim down by 2-3mm. By eliminating the bead hook and lowering the sidewall by 2-3mm they reduce the weight of the rim. Some of this material can be used in the center part of the rim making it stronger and stiffer. This design will help reduce the strain on the tire bead while creating a tighter seal. With these short sidewalls the tire should not hit the rim and pinch flat as often as standard rims, either with or without tubes. This design will allow you to run lower pressures and use 4mm more of the tire than ever before. The tire will have larger air volume giving you better traction than any rim in the world. They're also pretty light at 355 grams.
Here's a new tire in the shop, the Hutchinson Toro features more open lateral knobs that dig in better. Low knobs on the top of the tire to optimize grip and help shed mud. HARDSKIN tech consists of a flexible dense textile grid that reinforces the casing. Placed on the sidewalls, Hardskin increases the puncture resistance of the tire without affecting comfort or performance.
January 28th, 2010 ATTENTION ALL LADIES: Ray's MTB Park is hosting a women's clinic at their amazing facility in Cleveland on February 19th. Attention GUYS: this is the perfect opprutunity to go ride rays, bring your favorite lady up for some one on one instruction while you ride other parts of the course. They even rent bikes if you need one. Kona's Stuff dirt jumper comes with a Marzocchi Dirt Jump Two fork with a 20mm thru-axle, hydraulic disc brakes and shadow style Shimano Deore derailleurs. The stuff has a sloped top tube and a short rear end making it easier to throw around. This bike went together very well and you can tell every part is meant to take the abuse from jumping. We are still trying to figure out how they offer such a nice bike with a price tag at $999.99
This product went very quick when we first got it in, Caffelatex is back in stock here at OYLC. All of our first time buyers are very happy with it, try it out next time you set up your tubeless tires.
January 26th, 2010 New from Bonk Breaker are the peanut butter and jelly bar, homestyle baking meets sports nutrition. They bake every week, so all bonk breakers are shipped out within 5 days "out of the oven"
Northwave's Tribute Tri shoe is designed for the serious athlete with performance in mind. A carbon sole makes for good energy transfer and the strap ready feature makes strapping in a breeze when in a hurry.
We had a bike in here today with the new XX group from SRAM. We've been very anxious to get a bike in here and play around with the heavily anticipated new group. After going over the whole bike we amazed by all the features XX offers. We'll first start off with the full carbon crank set which is available in two different Q factors. 156 is the standard for road and 165 is the standard for moutain, this allows you to feel comfortable when switching from your mtn to road bike. There are three different chainring combos... 26-39,28-42, and 30-45 allowing for a good range of ratios. Several bb configurations(GXP, pressfit GXP, BB30, and pressfit 30)are available and Speed Works Swiss Ceramic bearings are what you get stock! Now on to the front derailuer which is what mechanics and riders around the world have been waiting for, no matter what gear you are in there is no way the chain will rub the ft. derailuer. They also make it to fit all bikes whether you need a top or bottom pull, in all the usual sizes of course. There are also different versions to match up with the different chainring ratios. The special ramping on the chainrings make for super smooth shifts plus add the double pin feature on the rings which lift the outer and inner link up to the big ring.
The XX rear derailluer is specifically designed for use with the 2x10 set up. Sealed ceramic pulleys are very durable and are contained in a carbon fiber cage.
XX disc brakes are vey innovative. A magnesium caliper keeps the weight down while oversized pistons give you more stopping power. The rotor is designed with weight savings in mind too, the two piece contsruction is made up of an aluminum 7075 center with a stainless steel rotor.
One of the coolest things about the XX group is the XX cassette. The aluminum large cog is replacable while the rest of the cassette is machined from a solid piece of steel allowing for longer life. Don't think it's heavy though, a 11-36 cass only weighs 208 grams!
This is exactly what we expected from SRAM, everything truly works together making for the best ride possible. Even if this isn't the group for you there are a ton of features that make sense, hopefully SRAM will work some of these ideas into other future products. The complete group wieght comes in at 2300 grams. Jeff from SRAM left some of the 2010 catalogues here so take a look at their other offerings next time your in the shop.
January 21st, 2009 With Spring right around the corner we are trying to figure out some new hours to make it easier for people to stop by the shop. We have though about opening Sunday or Monday and would like to know what you think. Drop us an e-mail at oylc@insightbb.com and let us know when it is most convenient for you to visit the shop. Thanks for any input.
January 19th, 2009 We've updated our events page with some fun upcoming bike rides. There are also two Cherokee Trail maintenance days coming up on January 30th and February 6th. Plans are to meet at the No Net trail at 12:00a.m. Send us an e-mail if you'd like us to add a cycling event to our calenders and event page.
January 16th, 2009 Brook's Flyer Special saddle comes with copper rivets for a nice look.
We've been out of the Look Keo pedals for a bit, but we have them back in stock now.
If your looking for a light weight, stiff crank set the Vuma Quad from Zipp is your answer. The set here comes with the ceramic bearing option for super smooth pedaling. Zipp designed the crank set with a four bolt chain ring which they find to be stiffer. You can use normal road gearing or compact gearing, they make rings for both styles to mount on the 110 bcd. The Vuma Quad is bb30 compatible making it even more adaptable. The total weight including bb is 570 grams.
January 14th, 2009 Pedro's Liquid X dry lube main purpose is for chains in wet, muddy conditions. It's also good for pivot points and spraying inside road shifters to keep them working correct.
Surly redesigned their Jethro Tule making it easier to open bottles. We've been missing these in the shop for a bit and they finally re-released them. Everything else was kept the same... 15mm wrench for axle nuts and a wide area for your palm to push against.
January 9th, 2009 Here's a dirt jumping contest in the snow from Kona. Seen this over at MTBshred.com
January 5th, 2010
Trail Maintenance >>> O' Bannon Woods: Plan is to meet at the Campground on Sunday January 10, 2010 at 10am. Work will be in the same area we worked the last trail day. Bench cutting, rock projects and finish grade are the main focus for this trail day. If the ground is to cold to dig, there are plenty of rock projects to work on, there are also several that plan on riding beforehand. Find out more here. December 31st, 2009 We had a good year here at the shop! We'd like to thank everyone for the continued support, having us fix your bikes, and letting us build some awesome bike we'll never forget. We have a lot of plans for 2010 so stay tuned to our site for all the things to come.
Here's a hot looking new design for the Selle San Marco Aspide saddle, you really can't go wrong with white.
Paul's Melvin is a chain tensioner that mounts to the detailer hanger of frames with vertical dropouts. A tightly coiled spring and two jockey wheels maintain good chain tension while allowing the use of more than one chain ring up front.
December 30th, 2009 We will be closing early tomorrow at 2 p.m. and will be closed Friday. Here's the last build of the year to come out of the shop, a new Ellsworth Evolve 29er' was put together today piece by piece. It's the best feeling when you get to assemble a bike one part at a time, you really know that everything gets done correctly. This bike went together like a dream and the excellent craftsmanship that Ellsworth is know for was seen in every step along the way.
Top of the line parts from Easton, SRAM, Thomson, and Avid make up the front end. Carbon Easton Monkey Lite bars provided a place for the Sram X9 shifters to rest along with the Avid Elixir brakes for superior stopping power. Locked-On Lizard Skins charger grips feel really good and are ready for all the white knuckle rides to come.
Ellsworth doesn't do anything normal, hence the custom WTB saddle.
Chris King bottom bracket was the obvious choice for super smooth spinning when it came to the cranks.
The other obvious part to include in this build was the Chris King headset. It's weird not seeing the bright white king logo on these things anymore, but as they say "change is good" and the sotto voce King blended right into the bike along with the Fox Fork.
Ellsworth rims are very wide allowing for a strong wheel set yet very light due to the special aluminum they use. Kenda Nevegal tires come on almost every Ellsworth and guarantee your bike being able to hook up when in need.
Straight pull Ellsworth hubs create an even stronger wheel, sealed bearings provide for an extremely smooth ride, and a quick engaging free hub make getting through the hardest technical sections a breeze.
December 23rd, 2009 WE WILL BE OPEN Christmas Eve from 9-4p.m. and will wrap any gift if you'd like.
We've been using the Effetto Mariposa Giustaforza torque wrench for a couple months now and are extremely impressed with how easy it is to use. You can set the torque range from 2-16 Nm and you can get it with ot with out the 16 bits.
Here's a new pump from Lezyne. It is 100% cnc machined from aluminum, features a reversible Presta/Schrader hose that stows inside handle when not in use, and it inflates to riding pressure quickly with 30% fewer strokes than conventional pumps.
December 17th, 2009 We have two 16" girls bikes ready to be under a tree this year. $99.99 includes a year's worth of maintanence!
NEW 2010 Rock Shox forks came in today. First up is the white Reba Team Dual Air which includes a handle bar mounted remote lock out. The black Reba is for the 29er's that are popping up more and more on the trails. Both models feature BlackBox Motion Control, Dual Flow, and Dual Air which independently adjustable positive and negative air spring chambers.
December 16th, 2009 TRAIL MAINTENANCE... scheduled for Waverly on Saturday Dec 19th, 2009 at 9am. Meet at the main parking lot by the playground, tools and snacks will be provided. We've been waiting a long time for a company to make colored spokes for mountain/road wheels. These red spokes were laced to DT rims with WTB Laser Disc Single Duty hubs on the other end. They feature sealed bearings and a wider flange for an extremely strong build.
Soma and Wheelsmith are now offering several different colors, we have white in stock and can order any of the ones below. Let us know if you want a wheel set that is unlike any other in town... we've done U of L, UK, American flag, and Rasta wheels for bmx so the combinations are endless and can now be applied to mountain and road wheels.
December 15th, 2009 Head on over to cyclingdirt.org to watch races from this weekends Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, Oregon.
The volunteer trail day at O' Bannon Woods went very well. There was a great turn out and plans are being made for another trail day in January.
Before
After... This creek crossing looks like a lot of fun, the guys put in a lot of work to get this done. This place is huge and it's going to be an amazing place to ride.
It's that time of year again to pull out the trainer. We have the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine in stock. It’s the perfect workout partner for sprints to intervals to all-day cruising. Quiet. Smooth. And like every Kinetic Trainer, 100% leak-proof. The power calibration gives you true outdoor simulation. The automatic resistance adjusts as you change speeds. Stop in and try it out for yourself.
Winter is also the time when people take trips to ride other places, whether it be an indoor skate park or heading south in search of dry trails. Saris makes the bones rear rack in several different colors. We've been selling these racks for years and they fit on almost every type of vehicle. Large rubber feet keep your car paint intact and allow for a very stable bike rack.
The Thelma is an alternative to traditional hitch mount bike racks. The days of sliding bikes over the rack are gone, simply place your bike in the wheel trays and strap it down with the ratchet straps. You also don't have to worry about scratching your car or your bike.
December 11th, 2009 Here's the new Planet Bike Two Watt light, along with the Blaze and Superflash kit. These are just some of the new lights we have along with the usual line of lights they offer.
It's that time of year when you have to have some serious gloves to stay warm, these are a new product in the shop from Pearl Izumi. These are extremely warm and will get you through your ride without frozen fingers.
Hands are very important to keep warm, but you can't forget about your toes. PI booties work amazing!
December 9th, 2009 Caffélatex has arrived at OYLC! Caffélatex is a truly innovative tyre sealant: the first of its advantages over standard latex-based sealants comes from a foaming agent (Actifoam™), activated by wheel movement.Centrifugal force drives standard latex-based sealants against the outer circumference of the tyre. Caffélatex foaming action causes it to fill the tyre's entire internal cavity , making it much more effective against sidewall punctures. Its fast sealing action makes Caffélatex ideal for MTB and road tubeless, tubular and standard tyres: it repairs punctures up to 6mm (mtb) and 3mm (road). Caffélatex contains no ammonia allowing this product to be 100% rim and tire friendly. Latex based sealants with ammonia can be harmfull to untreated rims and spots where wear penetrates the anodization. See the article here to learn about the ammonia problem and watch this video to see how it gets installed. We have the injector here if you need us to install Caffélatex into your wheel set or we have them for sale.
This comparison shows how the foaming action of Caffélatex works.
Here's an affordable hardtail from Kona featuring FSA Cranks, Rock Shox 100mm fork, Shimano Hydralic brakes and SLX read derailleur, and Maxxis Ignitor tires. The Cinder Cone uses aluminum butted tubing to lighten things up.
Holidays are very exciting around the bike shop, we get to build awesome bikes almost daily. This custom Fit was picked piece by piece.
Green and white spokes were an obvious choice and they gave the bike a very good look.
December 8th, 2009 TRAIL MAINTENANCE: sheduled for O' Bannon Woods on Sunday December 13th. Plans are to meet at the camp ground at 10 a.m. A group is meeting here at the shop at 9 a.m. to caravan over, every one is welcome to meet here and car pool/follow us. The potential for an epic trail system at O' Bannon is extremely high, the park is enormous...26,000 acres! To put that in perspective, Otter Creek was just over 3,000 acres. The drive is also reasonable, a short forty minute trip from downtown is all it takes. Come on out and help, tools will be provided.
This one is for the ladies... Kona has several bikes designed specifically for women. The Lisa 120 Deluxe is a 5" travel bike made with a light Scandium butted frame. The rockers are magnesium to decrease even more wieght. When it come to Kona there's always a nice componet group on each bike and they don't dissapoint on this bike at all. RockShox Recon 335 fork for the front and a Fox Float RP2 for the rear gets the suspension right. A Mavic Crossride wheel set rolls light and fast while the Shimano hydralic disc brakes slow your ride when in need.
We also recieved more bikes from Fit today. Fit Completes have been very popular this holiday season. Each bike is ramp ready right out of the box! All entry level bikes on up come with sealed bottom bracket, 3 peice cranks, sealed 9 tooth cassette hub, and a sealed integrated headset. The small 25 tooth sprocket stays out of the way during grinds and when rolling into ramps The Park 1 features a Snafu gyro to allow all the barspins and tailwhips possible. As always our bikes come with a year of free adjustments.
The next level up is the Park 2 and it features a longer top tube for taller riders along with bigger bars. A sealed front hub is also an upgrade found on the Park 2.
The Street 1 comes with four pegs and Wellgo plastic pedals. This bike is waiting to be ridden around town searching for new street spots.
The Tech 1 in white has been the one bike that every one loves. You usually don't get a bike this good looking until you spend over 600$, just a little over half that and the Tech 1 can be yours.
Last but not least is the Trail 1. Don't let the name fool you though this bike is ready for all the ramps, street, and dirt riding you can dish out. The trail series is inspired by style cat Mike Aitken and each bike is styled after one of his own.
December 4th, 2009 We talked about how hard it would be to wheelie the Kona Ute when we had one in the shop, basically we though it was impossible. This guy however didn't give up. Check it out.
December 3rd, 2009 The 24th Annual Bardstown Road Aglow is this Saturday. Businesses from Lexington to Taylorsville road will be open, along with all the normal bars and bands. The festival starts at dusk and goes long into the night, stop by the shop visit us. The thought of being doored sends chills down every cyclist's spine. Watch this creative public service announcement and remember to keep an eye out for swinging doors. I saw this on PINP where they also mention:“In other countries, drivers are taught to open their doors with their opposite hand, forcing them to look out the window into traffic for cyclists and other drivers. It’s a really simple method to ensure the safety of those around you.” NOT A BAD IDEA.
We received two frames from Ellsworth this week, one is being built for someone and the other is for stock. Come take a look at them asap. The Truth is Ellsworth's legendary xc four inch travel dual suspension frame with over sixteen years of use. The new models for 2010 feature even lighter tubing and Ellsworth's Instant Center Tracking Suspension Design.
What a sweet paint job!!! No man this isn't paint... it's anodized right to the frame, no more scratching or chipped paint! Only Ellsworth can make a bike look this unique.
The Rainforest Green color way is part of a program that helps Ellsworth promote environmental awareness starting with their solar powered, fully sustainable office in San Diego.
Note the badge on the down tube... that's right made right here in America.
Ellsworth logo cnc'd at the top of the seat stays, very subtle yet bad ass.
The Evolve is Ellsworth's new 29er full suspension xc bike. It now features lighter tubing and keeps the ICT suspension technology.
This model is the smoke color way, you have to come in and see how good it looks.
The Evolve is made right in America, not many companies can claim this any more.
ICT(Instant Center Tracking) is the way that the virtual pivot of the suspension tracks the chain force line so that at any point during travel your energy is always moving the bike forward. This allows the suspension to move freely, it's not constrained by a smart shock or remote lock out which results in better bump absorption and better ride quality. Since the wheels are always able to move you get the best traction and control while not receiving any energy loss due to the ICT. This probably sounds a little confusing but you can watch a full video about it on the Ellsworth site under the tech tab at the top. They even compare it to other suspension designs and show why it works better.
Look at the detail of the cnc'd rocker, Ellsworth frames feature sealed bearing pivots!
December 2nd, 2009 The season ending OVCX race is this Sunday at the River Road Country Club. This will be the last race to be held at the current cross park, plans are being made to move the cross course to Eva Bandman for future races. Get down there and cheer on all the racers and give support to the cross crew.
Louisville BMX legend Jimmy Levan has a new signature shoe from Duffs available and we have them in stock! Click our bmx page at the top to see more shoes that we got in from Duffs.

Here's a cool tool from KY BIKE TRAILS. Now you don't have to question whether a trail will be worth the drive. A couple clicks and you can update the conditions of a trail for others to see. It is very easy to use and could be very use full if more people start to use it.
